Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has started offering ad-free subscriptions in Europe. Basically, for around 9.99 to 12.99 euros a month, users can enjoy scrolling through their feeds without being bombarded by ads.
But here's the thing – while it sounds great to have an ad-free experience, some people are skeptical about shelling out cash for something they're used to getting for free. Plus, with all the other subscriptions we have for streaming services, music apps, and whatnot, it's starting to feel like we're drowning in monthly fees, right?
On the flip side, for those of us who are tired of being constantly targeted by ads, this could be a game-changer. No more interruptions while we scroll through our feeds, and no more feeling like our every move is being tracked by big tech companies.
Subscribers also get some extra perks like verification marks, access to beta features, and encrypted messages. And get this – some platforms even tweak their algorithms to give subscribers more visibility! It's like being in the VIP section of social media.
Of course, there are pros and cons for advertisers too. On one hand, fewer ad-exposed users could mean less reach for their campaigns. But on the other hand, it might lead to more targeted advertising and better results for those who are still seeing ads.
It's a bit of a mixed bag. Even we here at Socialode want to ensure that the user experience isn't being bombarded with relentless ads for stuff no one has an interest in buying.
Now to have a subscription-based service seems a little too much for our platform. Our goal is for the user before the profit. We're here because we want to change the world of social media for the better- by killing loneliness. We can't do that if everyone needs to pay.
It's a discussion on our end we sit around the table discussing, but we do have some cool solutions we're now testing out behind the scenes.
Stay tuned for more updates.
As Always,
You Just Need To Be You
Cheers,
The Socialode Team
